OF LOOKING, OF SEEING

Photographic Image Reading Meetings

Photography possesses a primacy that is also its most obvious strength, and at the same time its weakness.

Photography is, in fact, “easy.” Even a child can press the shutter button, thus capturing the memory of the moment, deluding themselves that they are stopping time, narrating, “telling” what they have seen, even without using words.

In today’s heterogeneous, often chaotic Global Village, an almost continuous flow of images accompanies us; a visual overdose affects our sensorial function of looking, often inhibiting the pleasure of a conscious, critical pleasure in “seeing.”

From this elementary observation, the idea of presenting the language and creativity of photography was born, even to an audience that does not necessarily have a specific background in the field: schools, universities, training centers, cultural associations.

The course will follow, according to the audience’s needs, easy and accessible paths and methodologies, through the presentation of the work of:

  • Great Masters.
  • Key themes: Portrait, Nude, Landscape, Reportage, Advertising, and more.

This series of meetings certainly does not claim to exhaust a broad and diverse topic, much less to teach the technique of “taking photographs.”
Primary objective: to stimulate the creativity within each of us in a conversational and enjoyable way. Only by humbly approaching what others have done before can the need to express ourselves through images arise: we learn first to read, then to write!

No specific knowledge of photographic technique or culture is required: the language of images is treated in a basic and conversational way for anyone who wishes to explore this fascinating world.

The course will be preceded by an introductory lecture: an introduction by the instructor.

Technical support required: digital projector, suitable screen, or even just a white wall.

Communication: by the organizing organization.

Costs and registration fees to be determined.

Ancillary activities:

Workshops on topics covered, possibly including exhibitions of student work.
Guided tours of photography exhibitions.
